THE GOLDEN FESTIVAL - (hinulawan festival)

Toledo City's HINULAWAN Festival is an output of the ingenuity of Toledanos taking into consideration the facts handed unto this generation. After almost 50 years, the city focuses for an indelible identity that will be etched for the next generation to appreciate and sustain.

HINULAWAN Festival is a showcase of fusion of cultural dances depicting the colorful past and present of Toledo City starting from the Pintados, Pre-Spanish, Spanish, Rural, Neo-Ethnic to the Modern Toledo eras.

HINULAWAN Festival comes from a contraction of two Visayan words - Hinaguang Bulawan (Hin + ulawan = Hinulawan) and historically Hinulawan was the original settlement located in Daanglungsod of the early Toledanos. The name was changed to Toledo when the Spaniards arrived in the place, replicating that of a town in Spain.

Cebu’s tourism showcase Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo- Exploring the midwest made its final stop in the mining town of Toledo City last Tuesday.

More than 300 local and foreign tourists joined townspeople in celebrating the city’s rich cultural heritage and honored the city’s patron St. John de Sahagun.

Toledo City used to be named Hinulawan for its rich gold and other mineral resources. Hinulawan is a contraction of two Cebuano words hinaguang bulawan or hard earned gold.

The annual festival street dancing contest showcases the city’s rich historical heritage starting from the Spanish era up to the present.
